Today, I marked something off my adventure list. You know the one. The list of things I want to do to remind myself I’m fully alive.

Reach into the sky and catch the sunrise with my husband on Lake Travis. That’s right – sunRISE. Where we can see new mercies sparkle in the growing light.

We sat quietly in the middle of the lake, with the moon still smiling and the first brushstrokes of dawn painting the sky. Jupiter gleamed from a most faraway place. Songbirds and owls sang a song as fish danced around us. Water moved like silk, touched only by the gentle breeze that made a cup of hot coffee more welcome. Low clouds moved across the glowing sky in a secret parade, parting to reveal the entrance of the sun to the day.

I thought about the Psalms as I looked around me – watching creation sing the praise of its Creator.

My heart will not be moved, O God. I will sing. Yes, I will sing praises with my soul. Wake up, different kinds of harps. I will wake up the new day. I will give thanks to You among the people, O Lord. I will sing praises to You among the nations. For Your loving-kindness is great above the heavens. And Your truth can touch the sky. Be lifted up high above the heavens, O God. Let Your shining-greatness be over all the earth. ~Psalm 108

I watched the sky fill with light long before the sun could be seen, the promise of a new day. And I was reminded of something I had written before. Of something the Lord had reminded me when I was feeling anything but new. Of the power of His promises. Of His delight in the word “new.”

God makes all things new.

new mercies

new grace

new hope

new redemption

new salvation

new love

new life

In Him, there are no leftovers. There are no second-runs. There are no expiration dates. There is nothing out-of-season. There is nothing deeply discounted. There is nothing that doesn’t matter anymore. Including your life.

If you are His, you are new. If you are His, you are relevant.

Today, the sparkle of the growing light of sunrise reminded me that He does make all things matter. He makes all things new. He makes today for each of us, as a gift for our own adventure lists.

So, what is on your list today?
