There are moments when life seems to flow from the pen in beautiful poetry and prose, and there are times when it feels more like an unfinished sentence – all full of scribbles and grappling for the right words. And doodles. Lots of doodles.

There are so many doodles on my page right now. So many pieces of phrases and threads of thought. So many scribbled prayers. The writer in me wants them to align perfectly into a cohesive moment that will fit well on a page. The creator in me wants them to float into place, revealing a picture with well-defined focus. But the stumbler in me who knows the Author of life says “embrace the beauty of the pieces and threads and scribbles – for poetry and purpose can even be found in them.”

So today, I celebrate the dreams not yet fully formed, the brand new thing, the moving to the next. I celebrate every “what if” and “how might” and “could this be” that dances alongside the doubt and wonder and wandering. Today, I embrace the Lord’s invitation to be courageous in the unfinished.

I rejoice in the future season of life – a time of tending to people more than things, a season of even greater pouring out – as the ink still flows and dries on this chapter. I smile at the becoming less significant to become more precious.

Be strong, all who wait with hope for the Lord, and let your heart be courageous. ~Psalm 31:24

I celebrate the transformation that will take place in lives of the discarded – because of the intersection of stories of the God-breathed dreams of friends here and there. Stories I am ready to share though they haven’t yet been lived. I smile at the becoming words for those who struggle to find them.

With all this going for us, my dear, dear friends, stand your ground. And don’t hold back. Throw yourselves into the work of the Master, confident that nothing you do for him is a waste of time or effort. ~1 Corinthians 15:58

I dance at the finish line, thankful for the Lord’s relentless love and care. He paces. I follow. He won’t let me give up. He loves me that much. I smile at the sound of the cadence and at the thought of the feet alongside mine. For I am never alone.

Be strong. Take courage. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t give them a second thought because God, your God, is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down; he won’t leave you. ~Deuteronomy 31:6

Today, there is courage and strength found in my unfinished. Today, I pray your unfinished will find the same. Here is to threads and phrases and doodles becoming poetry and prose.
