Day 35: Mesquite, Texas
The tears fell as she walked down the aisle. “She is breathtaking.” Even the pastor had to pause to take it all in, this glorious celebration of beautiful belonging.
He knew their hearts, this pastor. He had prayed with both of them before they dated, walked with them through their relationship. His love for them resonated in his words, and his tears joined theirs as they exchanged rings.
The bride and groom humbly washed each others’ feet. Stories were shared of his faithful friendship and her tender care for those who were hurting and of their shared love of music and Jesus. They made a toast to all the days ahead. Adults cheered. Children danced. All were welcome in the celebration – every tribe, every tongue, every nation.
I drank it all in like fine wine. This. This moment that transcended a ceremony and took on shape like something I didn’t even know I was longing for. Like church – the church my heart hopes for, the church my heart needs.
Beautiful belonging.
